I’m a Southern girl by birth, Southern Californian at heart, currently having a love affair with Boston. I love Marie Kondo, Pilates, Netflix, candy and coffee…but not necessarily in that order. I have been around photography for as long as I can remember.

My Story

My parents are artists who once upon a time, made their living in advertising. When I was growing up, my dad was a photographer and graphic designer and my mom was an executive at an ad agency. Let’s just say I was a kinder, gentler, way more loved Sally Draper. I was kicking around commercial photo shoots and film labs before I could ride a bike. It was pure magic to me and the photographers were the coolest magicians ever. But I was equally in awe of movies and television, so Hollywood was my destiny.

After graduating from The University of Georgia, I packed up and headed west. I spent 18 years in Los Angeles and had myself a nice little career in the entertainment business. I started out as a production assistant and ended up a Television Producer. Along the way my fascination with photography kept growing, but it wasn’t my calling until the ripe old age of 27.  I was burnt out on the grind and needed an escape. On a whim I bought a 35mm camera and a one-way ticket to Portugal.  10 countries, 3 months and 27 rolls of film later a passion was born. Yep, I said film.

I eventually went back to TV, but took some time off to go to wait tables and take some photography classes. I did product shots for a bridal tiara designer; I shot a wedding, dozens of headshots and countless gothic tombstones. And then in 2007 as a wedding present my husband bought me my first digital camera – a Canon Rebel. I started my business a few months later. I still worked in TV, but I fell in love with documenting families and specifically portraiture of children. Talk about magic! I love the power of capturing that one heart stopping image and all the emotion it can convey.

Life has changed a lot since bringing back that bag of film canisters. I married a boy from New England, had an amazing little girl, packed up my life in California and moved to Boston. And now I’m photographing life from a whole new perspective.   I miss my flip flops, my SoCal life and all the dreamers everywhere, but I’m loving my boots, seasons and all the amazing memories we’re making as a family. Home is where the heart is! Life is messy and beautiful and never sticks to the plan.  Lifestyle photography is very much the same. I’d really love to document your crazy, beautiful, messy story.

Yours truly,

Rachel
